Who is Tin Planet and what do we do?

Tin Planet is a bustling creative hive situated just beyond the Milky Way amongst the smallest Magellanic Cloud overlooking Planet Earth. Despite our distance from the sun we generate a warm atmosphere of pride and contentment energised by our passion and lightyears of experience in Game Design and Digital Art. Fortunately we also have an office in the East of England so we are never beyond the reach of our valued customers.

Tin Planet maintains a small core team and a talented network of trusted individuals affording us the flexibility and low running costs needed to function effectively within a competitive and demanding industry.

  • "We had a need for a short 2 minute animation to support a product launch. The timescales were very tight and Tin Planet delivered an amazing clear and concise animation that included the introduction of a character that was also key to the brand launch. I was very pleased with the final result and look forward to working with Tin Planet again soon."

Drawing Board

Genuine Tin Planet Philosophy No.1; Everything starts at the beginning. Ok, so it isn't exactly Plato and seems somewhat obvious but what does it mean for us? It means that we start every project with a pencil, an open mind, a chinwag and a nice cup of tea.

Pixel Perfect

For the sake of sanity, we wouldn't suggest for a moment that every image should be scrutinised at the pixel level, albeit, simply paying attention and applying a little knowhow will produce sharper results and improve positioning in particular areas.

Game Design

To represent any game concept effectively it is important to know and understand every aspect of its development and the target demographic. After working in the industry for more than twenty years we have come to know and understand the many nuances of game design and how they have evolved and diversified over the years to suit the end user.

Title Brand

Every release has the potential to represent the image of its developer/s and with a little luck, could be around for a long time. To underestimate the relevance of image can be a costly mistake and a lasting bugbear. It is important to establish an attractive, versatile and recognisable brand from the outset.

Responsive Design

Personal gaming platforms have grown considerably in recent years with a vast array of desktop PCs, mobile phones and tablets on offer. Whilst this is great for the industry it does create a few necessary inconveniences for the developer; The already prodigious list of aspect ratios, screen resolutions and graphics processing capabilities continues to grow and, of course, the ability to change screen orientation on the fly. All things considered it can be quite a challenge to develop and maintain a compatible product.

Iconography has long been an important aspect of game design; its purpose to convey ‘instantly’ the function and/or value of that icon with a clear, enticing and explicit meaning.

Sound Design and Original Score

Great graphics are just part of the mix that will make your project fizz and sparkle for its intended audience – it also needs a sound foundation, and here on Tin Planet we have our own sonic foundry at your service. From sound design to original soundtracks, we can forge audio to meet the widest range of briefs giving your productions the bespoke ear candy, ambience or impact you want and your audience deserves. Our planet may be tin, but our ears are definitely not.

Proprietary Software

Alpaqa is a proprietary ‘image processing tool’ developed in house to help maintain a fast and efficient workflow when transferring artwork and animation over to code leaving us more time to concentrate on the fun stuff. We wanted a tool that would take a layered Psd directly from Adobe Photoshop and offer flexible processing options within seconds and without compromising the quality of the graphics. Alpaqa is an intelligent tool that goes beyond the typical expectations of image processing software and yet with the help of valuable feedback, we are continuously making improvements.

Tin Planet hopes to make Aplaqa available to purchase online. Interested? Use the ‘keep me posted on Alpaqa’ option on the form below and get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
